Penile Hypersensitivity: Treating Premature Ejaculation Due to a Sensitive Penis

Penile Hypersensitivity Treating Premature Ejaculation Due to a Sensitive Penis

When it comes to sexual dysfunction, most men often resort to doing one of two things—disclosing the problem to their partner—and only their partner—or keeping the whole thing under wraps.

All too often men resort to the latter, hiding their sexual dysfunction woes due to shame and embarrassment. But the fact is that problems surrounding erectile function and sexual health are far more common than many realize.

Penile hypersensitivity, for instance, is one such subject that many men choose to hide. This sexual disorder is when the penis gets too sensitive to the point that it becomes uncomfortable.

This feeling of penile sensitivity doesn’t only arise when a man engages in sexual intercourse. Penile hypersensitivity can trigger as men do menial activities, such as going for a walk or peeing at the toilet.

It may also affect different parts of the penis differently, with some areas facing the brunt of the pain, while other areas just experience a slight prick.

However, if the case of penile hypersensitivity is severe enough, it may often lead to even more pressing problems, such as premature ejaculation (PE). For reference, it takes 4 to 7 minutes to reach the ejaculation point during intercourse.

Let’s learn more about what penile hypersensitivity is, how it’s related to premature ejaculation, and what you can do to manage your sensitive penis.

Causes Of Hypersensitivity

There are a variety of causes for hypersensitivity in men.

The three most common ones are:

  1. Genetics
  2. Phimosis
  3. UTIs

Circumcision has been subject to debate as to whether it contributes to penile sensitivity or not. However, research has found little supporting evidence to support that claim.

Regardless, talking with a doctor can be helpful if you have premature or rapid ejaculation, erectile dysfunction, or other sexual problems.

Genetics

One such cause lies in one’s genetic history. According to one study, men with a family history of increased sensitivity in the penis have an increased likelihood of experiencing the same issue later in life as well.

Genetic variations in our anatomy can also take place, causing some men to be predisposed with more sensitivity in their penis than others.

Phimosis

Phimosis is a condition where the foreskin can’t detract from the glans of the penis (or the penis head). This condition only affects uncircumcised men.

Phimosis normally occurs in infants and toddlers. But on some rare occasions, it may also occur in adult men, most notably after they’ve encountered skin infections like posthitis or balanitis.

During phimosis, a rubber band-like shape in the penis head prevents the foreskin from pulling all the way back, causing the penis head to stay hidden. This causes penis sensitivity and is usually remedied by undergoing adult circumcision.

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

A urinary tract infection occurs when bacteria or fungi enter the urethra. Common symptoms of a UTI include:

  • Penile sensitivity
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Frequent urination
  • Bloody urine

Most cases of UTI are temporary and can be treated with the right medication.

The Connection Between Hypersensitivity and Premature Ejaculation

The penis is thickly packed with several nerve endings that make it sensitive. This helps men derive more pleasure during sex under normal circumstances.

However, people with hypersensitivity are unfortunately stuck with an overly sensitive penis that can’t perform vaginal penetration.

It doesn’t stop there, either. According to a study published in Nature, people with a high penile sensitivity profile is one way of determining whether someone has premature ejaculation or not.

Another study involving 420 men has uncovered that people with PE have higher sensitivity in their glans than an average adult male population.

What is Premature Ejaculation?

As defined by DSM-5, premature ejaculation is known to have the following characteristics:

  • Ejaculation occurs before 1 minute after vaginal intercourse
  • Persistence for more than 6 months
  • Happens across all sexual experiences
  • Causes significant distress to the individual

Premature ejaculation is a sexual disorder that requires medical attention. Talk to a doctor to find the right sexual health treatment plan for you.

Treatment for Premature Ejaculation and Sensitive Penis

Treatment for Premature Ejaculation and Sensitive Penis

Treatment for premature ejaculation and a sensitive penis often overlap.

To treat rapid ejaculation, consider the following remedies below.

PE Therapy

While topical remedies, such as desensitizing ointments, lubrications, and sprays, can be used to reduce and manage symptoms of premature ejaculation, these products only target the symptoms of dysfunction.

PE therapy is performed by an experienced physician who develops a customized treatment plan addressing the underlying causes of your specific sexual health concerns.

Surgery

If you’re experiencing severe sensitivity, doctors may perform an incision to widen your foreskin. This type of surgery (called a “dorsal slit”) can help fight pain that occurs during an erection.

Consult with a medical professional to discuss less invasive treatment options prior to engaging in a surgical route that may not be necessary for your unique medical history and issues.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Your mental state can drastically affect the way you make sense of your situation. Mental ailments like depression and anxiety are known ailments that can worsen symptoms of sexual dysfunction, like erectile dysfunction, in men.

As a remedy, talking about your problem with a qualified professional can help improve your health and manage the psychological effects of your sexual illness.
