Ginger Benefits for Men’s Sexual Health: How It May Improve Low Testosterone

Ginger Benefits for Men's Sexual Health How It May Improve Low Testosterone

From aiding digestion and stomach problems to reducing the risk of heart disease, the fragrant ginger root has helped remedy illnesses and conditions with its therapeutic properties.

But aside from being a culinary spice and a household remedy, ginger also has potential health benefits for men’s sexual performance.

In particular, the ginger-like root extract, Kaempferia parviflora, has been traditionally used as an aphrodisiac to treat sexual dysfunction. It also increases blood flow and can reduce body weight.

That said, modern science is only now starting to unravel the potent effects of black ginger on male sexual health.

Let’s take a closer look at the evidence to see how this pungent root may improve your testosterone levels and sexual function.

Low Testosterone and Ginger: The Connection

According to a study published by the Jordan University of Science and Technology, ginger supplementation enhances testosterone production in males.

Multiple findings led researchers to reach that conclusion. Here are the most notable findings from the study.

LH Increases

For one, luteinizing hormone production increases when participants take dietary ginger supplementation. LH is vital for testosterone production as it stimulates the Leydig cells in the testes to produce more of it. So, as the body makes more LH, the total amount of testosterone in the body will go up.

Blood Glucose Normalizes

According to a recent study, men with diabetes and suboptimal blood sugar levels are at increased risk of developing testosterone deficiency in the future.

Ginger contains stabilizing properties that help it fight against chronic diseases like Type 2 diabetes. This is because of an active component known as gingerols found in ginger, which allows glucose to be absorbed in the muscle cells without using insulin.

When diabetes is addressed and normalized, blood pressure decreases, and testosterone levels stabilize alongside it.

Blood Flow Increases in Testes

Ginger supplementation can improve blood flow to the penis and sexual organs. This is because of the various minerals found in ginger that help promote blood circulation, namely magnesium, chromium, and zinc.

An increase in blood flow helps address various sexual dysfunction problems, the most common of which is erectile dysfunction.

Nitric Oxide Production Increases

Nitric Oxide (NO) has a vasodilating effect, which helps dilate blood vessels and improve the blood volume circulating throughout the body. NO also activates smooth muscle tissue relaxation in the penis, particularly in the corpus cavernosum.

This erectile tissue is vital for facilitating erections and ejaculations in males. This increased efficiency results in increased blood flow to the penis and a higher rate of sexual satisfaction.

While many men face symptoms like a low sex drive, poor sleep, and constant irritability due to low testosterone, there are a surprisingly sizeable number of people with low testosterone that don’t have symptoms at all.

With that in mind, it’s only natural to inquire whether ginger can still be of use to men without the obvious signs of low T.

In such cases, ginger can still be a potent substance that can help men fulfill a healthy and happy sex life.Ginger has been used as an aphrodisiac since time immemorial, and its effects on male sexual function have also been studied and upheld in various research studies.

As mentioned earlier, Thai black ginger, or Kaempferia parviflora, has helped in enhancing blood flow and improving sexual experiences in one clinical trial.

The study divided participants into three categories:

  1. Men who took a placebo
  2. Men who ingested 25 mg of Thai Black Ginger
  3. Men who ingested 90 mg of Thai Black Ginger

Forty-five men joined the study, all of which have a mean age of around 65 years old. After eight weeks, the findings supported ginger’s case: the men who took a 90 mg dose had a faster erectile response time to erotic stimuli by 50% compared to men who took the placebo. However, those who took a 25 mg dose didn’t have a significant increase in their response.

On top of that, men who took the 90 mg dose of ginger extract reported having a one-centimeter increase in penile length when flaccid and erect. This change in penile size lasted for about two months.

Overall, it can be stated that ginger has a positive impact on men who suffer from erectile difficulties. It’s also more sustainable than certain ED medications with one-time uses as it can last for a few months.

Ginger and Cardiovascular Connection

Ginger has also been known to help improve cardiovascular function. In one study, daily ginger consumption correlated to a decreased risk for hypertension for males aged 18 and above. For men aged 60 and above, the risk for coronary heart disease decreased as more ginger is consumed.

Cardiovascular health is inextricably linked with erectile and sexual function. For instance, early erectile dysfunction is often a sign of atherosclerosis or clogging of blood vessels that may lead to cardiac arrest or heart attacks.

Cardiovascular health also influences the blood flow to various regions of the body. If there’s insufficient blood volume directed to the penis, it can lead to erectile problems like erectile dysfunction.

Clinical Treatment for Low Testosterone

While introducing fresh ginger root and other exotic herbs like Yohimbe into your diet can help you fight against low testosterone, it’s best to follow a doctor’s guidance to ensure that your health is in the right care.

Various clinical treatments like ED therapy are proven to be effective in treating low testosterone. One common approach is testosterone replacement therapy, which can help to restore levels of the hormone and improve poor circulation.

This treatment plan uses synthetic testosterone to improve low levels and can often be done through the following means:

  • Injections
  • Gels
  • Patches
  • Implants
